Wireframing

Wireframes are typically done in greyscale and provide a visual way to layout the user experience on structural level to see how the functionality might fit together taking into account user needs.

Visual Framework

Wireframes outline the basic content and functionality of an interface, minus the final UI design elements. They are in depth enough to fully consider user needs and user journeys, but at this stage, disregard the final visual design. Having said this, wireframes can explain a lot about how the user would interact with the interface. Simple details such as shading buttons can be used to highlight interaction points, clearly presenting the content and structure as well as interaction and flow.

Easily adaptable

Before spending valuable time on the final UI design features, wireframes can be used to present to the client or user for feedback. They are adaptable screens which can be quickly changed according to client or user needs, without worrying about the time it will take to change code or UI.

Low-fidelity or high-fidelity?

There is a wide range of types of wireframes you will see as the fidelity can drastically change the appearance. Low fidelity wireframes are used in the design process to ideate structure and make quick changes, however, the higher the fidelity for the end result, the better. When communicating the content and structure to a UI designer or a client, high fidelity wireframes clearly depict all aspects in detail. In addition, presenting high-fidelity prototypes demonstrates that time and effort have been put into the work, but ensures they will not be distracted by aesthetics characteristics at this stage.

“Wireframes are an essential part of nearly all projects we work on as they enable us to quickly get our ideas down for the layout, structure and navigation”

Some questions you might have

Can I use wireframes to test my idea with users?

Definitely. Rapid sketching and paper prototyping is a quick and cost effective way to get quick user feedback on your wireframes, Similarly, high-fidelity wireframes are a great way of presenting the current progress of your idea to get early user feedback. High-fidelity wireframes still show all the important aspects of the software, just without the colours and final design. Wireframes ensure you will avoid wasting time and money on UI or development, when stages of iteration still may occur.

Are you able to help me design my final idea based on my basic wireframes?

Yes absolutely, we are able to lend a hand at any stage. If you have a well-rounded concept we can step in and start transforming it into a series of digital interfaces in any form. Its sometimes more helpful to have a basic wireframe from our client than not as we can then visualise your interpretation of the problem before we put our fresh eyes on it.

Can wireframes be designed for a range of devices?

Yes, wireframes show the content and functionality of an interface, thus can be created for any digital platform. Whether it be a mobile or desktop website, tablet or mobile application, wireframes can be designed to accommodate a wide range of shapes and sizes.
