Accessibility audit

An accessibility audit is a comprehensive assessment that evaluates a digital product or service’s compliance with accessibility standards. It identifies areas for improvement to ensure inclusivity for users with a wide range of disabilities.

Identifying barriers

Addressing accessibility is key to creating digital experiences that accommodate diverse users, regardless of ability. It also supports legal compliance, strengthens user trust, and contributes to long-term product sustainability. When inclusivity is neglected, you limit your audience, risk reputational and legal issues, and miss the opportunity to create meaningful connections with users who rely on accessible design.

Our accessibility audits help uncover a range of issues, such as:

  • Barriers to access – identifying what prevents users with disabilities from using your product effectively
  • Non-compliance with standards – assessing whether the design meets recognised accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Inaccessible features – identifying missing support for keyboard navigation, alternative image text, video captions, and other key elements
  • Lack of assistive technology support – testing compatibility with tools such as screen readers and voice recognition software
  • Cognitive and visual challenges – addressing how users with cognitive or visual impairments experience the interface
  • Forms and interactions – checking that inputs, error states, and other elements are accessible to users with motor impairments
  • Colour contrast and readability – evaluating visual contrast and typographic clarity
  • Comprehensive inclusivity – ensuring users of all abilities can navigate, understand, and use the product or service

The process of a successful accessibility audit

Our audit process is based on four core principles of digital accessibility. These principles form a structured and repeatable way to assess how well a product supports all users:

  • Perceivable
  • Operable
  • Understandable
  • Robust

Each principle includes specific subcategories, such as use of alt text, assistive technology support, and clear language. Every area is scored independently, and we provide a clear breakdown of findings. To visualise the results, we create spider and radar charts that highlight strengths and weaknesses across each area. This makes it easy to see where improvements are most needed, helping to direct design and development efforts where they will have the biggest impact.

Working with Full Clarity

Engaging Full Clarity to carry out an accessibility audit gives you more than just a checklist. We bring a design-led lens to the process, combining accessibility standards with a strong understanding of user experience and product context. That means we not only flag technical issues, but also help your team understand how those issues affect real users.

We approach audits with a focus on collaboration. We work closely with your team to explain findings clearly, build shared understanding, and support informed design decisions. This helps bring accessibility to the forefront of your design process and makes it a core part of how your product evolves.

Creating an inclusive digital landscape

Once the audit is complete, we provide a detailed accessibility evaluation report. This includes summaries of where your product meets accessibility standards, where it falls short, and what actions are needed to close the gap. All recommendations are clearly prioritised to support confident next steps.

Typical outcomes include:

  • Clear prioritisation of accessibility issues across design, content, and code
  • Increased compliance with WCAG standards and legal obligations
  • Greater compatibility with assistive technologies
  • More usable interfaces for people with cognitive, visual, or motor impairments
  • Reduced ambiguity for design and development teams
  • Increased confidence in decisions that affect user inclusivity
  • Improved user experience for everyone, not just those with disabilities

FAQs

How long does an accessibility audit take?

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your product. For most web-based platforms, an audit can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks. We’ll provide a clear estimate once we understand your product’s scope and user journeys.

Do you test with real users with disabilities?

Not as part of the core audit. Our audit is an expert-led review against accessibility standards and known user needs. However, if you’d like usability testing with disabled users as a follow-on phase, we can support that too, especially where deeper insight into edge cases or assistive tech is needed. Please contact us if this is a service you’re interested in.

Is an accessibility audit only suitable for new products?

Not at all. In fact, most audits we carry out are for existing products that have already launched. You can run an accessibility audit at any stage, whether you’re planning a redesign, preparing for a legal review, or just want to improve inclusivity across your platform.
